About Us

The Electron Imaging Center for Nanomachines is a group of people with diverse expertise and very expensive equipment working to pave the foundation for nanotechnology. We use a combination of cryo-electron microscopy (or cryoEM) and three-dimensional reconstruction and computer modeling to reconstruct high-resolution models of viruses and macromolecular complexes. We specialize in the following:

  • Determining the three-dimensional structures of macromolecular assemblies and nanoscale machineries;
  • Electron microscopy, computer image processing and 3D reconstruction;
  • Bioinformatics and cryoEM structure-based modeling;
  • High performance computing and SQL database applications.

History

Our lab started about 10 years ago at the University of Texas Health Science Center, and since then we've made discoveries, published papers, and seen friends come and go. Our current projects are listed here. We have just relocated to the University of California Los Angeles.
