EICN procedure for new users

  1. Contact one of the EICN Associate Directors to see how EICN may help in your project.
Ivo Atanasov: Help regarding cryo electron microscopy and 3D tomography approaches
    Sergey Ryazantsev: All other requests.

  2. Decide if EM is right for your project..
Does your project budget include EM? Would you like to do EM with us? Do you require special training, which is not available at EICN? Please, keep in mind that EICN is a self-service facility and services at EICN may be limited.

Users without any previous EM experience are required to obtain training on the CM120 or JEM1200EX instruments first. At least 30 hours of experience on recent FEI TEMs are required to be qualified to work on the Titan or TF20 instruments after appropriate training. Users may present a voucher from another EM lab verifying his/her experience with FEI instruments. Training is subject to personnel availability.

  3. Create Core Lab Management System (CLMS) account.
EICN uses the Core Lab Management System (CLMS), a CNSI centralized reservation system, to manage reservations for all the instruments. Create a CLMS account here to have access to the system. The CLMS account is subject to approval from CNSI and EICN. Normally, it takes a few days to process a new account request. For further information on CLMS accounts, click here. EICN is not responsible for CLMS functionality, so please address your inquiries and problems directly to CLMS administrators:

    Bonji Saliwan

(For problems involving funding and/or Recharge IDs)

    Maryam Ariannejad

    (For technical issues involving CLMS)

  4. Complete EICN Application form.
Complete and sign the EICN application and User Agreement (.pdf, right-click to download. Thanks to Ajay Gopal, users may now fill out the EICN form on their computers). This form must be filled out, signed by the user and PI, and presented to EICN personnel prior to the training session. Please indicate if you are planning to use any dangerous materials at EICN. User is responsible for providing all permits required by UCLA Environmental Health & Safety in relation to the project the user wants to conduct at EICN. Copies of valid permits should accompany the application form.

  5. Obtain training at EICN.
Training is required in order to use EICN equipment. Thereafter, users are permitted to use the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please set an appointment with one of the directors for training. Up to total six hours of training are provided free of charge, $50/h thereafter. Training is not available without a completed EICN Application form.

  6. Users are permitted to use the EICN facility after creating a CLMS account, presenting a signed EICN User Agreement and completing training. Using instruments without a reservation on CLMS is not permitted. Users must comply with general CNSI and internal EICN policies and be aware of charges related to using EICN. All users have equal access to the EICN facility on a first come, first serve basis during normal working hours via CLMS.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!
EICN personnel.
